3D-Rendered Tile Stack

Tiles are arranged in a multi-layer pyramid structure rendered in WebGL. The three-dimensional view shows stacking depth that flat versions obscure.

  • WebGL rendering displays tile shadow and elevation, making layer depth immediately readable
  • Players can identify which tiles sit on top and which are buried under others
  • The visual presentation distinguishes tiles at the same XY position but different heights
2

Free-Tile Selection Rule

Only tiles with at least one free side (left or right) and no tile resting on top can be selected. The player must identify free tiles before attempting a match.

  • A tile is free if nothing covers it from above and it has an open left or right face
  • Matching two free tiles removes both and may free tiles beneath or beside them
  • The full 144-tile set means the board is densely packed at the start of each game
3

Sequence-Dependent Clearing

The order in which pairs are removed determines whether the remaining board stays solvable. Efficient clearing plans multiple moves ahead.

  • Removing a pair too early can block access to a tile needed later in the sequence
  • Reading which tiles will become free after a removal is the core planning skill
  • Some board configurations have only one solvable sequence — others allow multiple paths
4

Classic Suit Tile Imagery

Tiles use the traditional mahjong set: bamboo, characters, circles, winds, dragons, and flowers. Suit recognition is the matching foundation.

  • Bamboo, character, and circle suits each contain tiles numbered 1–9
  • Wind and dragon tiles are matched by exact type, not number
  • Flower and season tiles match any tile in their respective group, not just identical ones

What You Do

Clear Stacked Tiles in Pairs

Select two matching free tiles to remove them from the stack.

Mahjong Online is a browser solitaire game rendered in WebGL in which you remove tiles from a stacked three-dimensional layout by selecting matched pairs. A tile is available to select only when at least one of its long sides is fully open and nothing sits on top of it.
